SumGood will be back in The Copperhouse Gallery in Dublin to bring you the next installment of our annual art auction, this time going bigger and better than ever…
When: Wednesday April 9th and Thursday April 10th
Where: The Copperhouse Gallery, Dublin & Online
This year, we are raising the bar with not one but TWO incredible contemporary art auctions featuring over 220 exceptional artworks from Ireland’s top artists, with up to 45% going back towards the artists.
Taking advantage of the fact we are the only social enterprise on the Invaluable online bidding platform, we plan to run an in person Live Auction (with live & online bidding in tow) on Wednesday the 16th of April, and then run a fully online – podcast style – Virtual Auction on Thursday the 17th.
The 55% from each art sale coming to SumGood from this auction will help us run the organisation and grow it, as well as developing our KickStart Kitchen chef training programme which aims to bridge the gap between those facing a barrier to employment with a hospitality sector currently on its knees.
The Event Itself
The Live Auction on Wednesday the 9th of April will kick off at 5pm with a 2 hour drinks reception / exhibition of up to 110 artworks, giving attendees the opportunity to explore and admire the pieces before the auction begins at 7pm.
We will have space for 100 in-person bidders but will have the event streamed live online via Invaluable, where bidders can participate in real time, using a desktop, tablet or their innovative app (which has had a recent facelift).
With our top resident auctioneer George Gerard Mealy back on the podium, an exciting and energetic evening of art, craic and a couple bevvies is guaranteed.
The Thursday evening – the 10th – will introduce a second, fully online live Virtual Auction with up to 120 artworks, also hosted on Invaluable, and also streamed live online from the Copperhouse – allowing bidders from around the world to participate in real time.
DonateThe KickStart Kitchen is a new free sous chef training programme open to anyone and everyone who may feel they are currently experiencing a barrier to employment. The programme also aims to alleviate the recruitment struggles currently facing restaurants and hotel kitchen, which has led to many closures in recent months.
The course consists of 12 classes over 6 weeks followed by a work placement in a top Dublin restaurant / hotel. The course itself is created by the head chefs in these restaurants with the aim of creating sous chefs in the making, teaching novices the very basics they need to start a work placement, and then to start employment.
Trainees will come from all walks of life and SumGood will collaborate with groups working in Direct Provision, homelessness charities, inner city groups, early school leavers, immigrants etc and will aim to offer the same opportunities to local and migrant communities alike.
